How does your supercomputer work ?
Cracking the code of habits for your supercomputer.
The Human Brain is not less than a super computer. For hundreds of thousands of years, it has been evolving and adapting its environment to become even better. Many of us believe that we can not use more than a certain percentage of our brain (5%-15%), but it’s actually a not true. We all use our brain to it’s fullest (100%) but only with the efficiency of certain percentage.
If you provide environment for it to grow it then you can increase the efficiency. Environment plays a silent role on your brain and your character. Studies show that ‘you become the average of your friend circle’. If you surround yourself with friends who work towards their personal and professional growth, you will also feel motivated towards working on yourself. It’s not surprising to know this as the brain has been programed since ages, ‘to be in the herd’. When we see other people doing certain things, our brain tells us to the same thing, our brain WANTS to be in the group.
How you can install a good habit and uninstall a bad habit ?
Our super computer can do ANYTHING if we provide it the perfect code. The code consists of environment and showing up daily. You can not study if your desk is messy. Setting up an environment that is motivating to work in, will help you enjoy your work. Place things that tell your brain to perform the habit. Studies show that brain releases dopamine just by seeing things that are related to your habit an not actually performing the habit. Hence a good environment drives you towards your habit. After setting up the environment, You have to show up everyday to embed the habit in your routine. If you study one day and procrastinate the other 6 days, you are likely to fail your exams, If you hit gym once a week and expect to be a muscular guy, you need some magic to do so. When you show up every day, you tell your brain that ‘this habit is necessary’ and the habit gets into your subconscious mind. What was the last time you told your brain to breath ? Same process can be applied to break a bad habit just by inversing these factors, Don’t show up for that bad habit, clear your environment that triggers you, make it harder to do.
Adapting new habit or breaking bad habits takes time. It is never one snap and you form the habit. Consistency is what will help you achieve your goals. If you see someone who reads multiple books in a month, don’t panic, they were beginners at some point and by reading everyday, setting up their book shelf in front of them made them what they are. It is those little efforts, those tiny steps which compound themselves over time and one day you see drastic success.
Show up every day, Surround your self with good environment and believe in the process. You can apply this strategy in nearly every aspect of your life.
tl;dr
The human brain is like a super computer that can do anything if provided with the perfect code. Environment and consistency are important factors in installing good habits and breaking bad ones. By setting up a motivating environment and showing up daily, you can embed the habit in your subconscious mind. Adapting new habits or breaking bad ones takes time and consistency, but small efforts can compound over time to lead to success.
